Hi Jenny

Using and manipulating the Free search functions of:
Scotlands People
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
(free to register, free to search, pay via credits to view & download)

It shows up  11 SUGGETT deaths in all Scotland 1855 - 2006
One the 11 is  Richard SUGGETT in 1945 age 86 years (born abt 1859)
It's registered in Stirling District of Stirlingshire

Altogether 5 other  SUGGETT deaths are registered in Stirlingshire:
1 in 1933
2 between 1971 & 1982

Because Richard's death in before 1960, you are able to purchase the death record image online at Scotlands People

Hello Jenny

The death found by Ambly was for a Richard Suggett -  musician, widower of Mary Smith.   Parents:  Charles Suggett (Seaman, Merchant Service), and Mary Suggett (M.S. Slattery).

Regards,    Steve   :)

There are 8 Suggett deaths recorded during WW1 - none yours.

http://www.cwgc.org/search/SearchResults.aspx?surname=Suggett&initials=&war=1&yearfrom=1914&yearto=1919&force=&nationality=6&send.x=37&send.y=18

Just back off Scotlands People after looking at the only marriage in Scotland of a Richard Suggett from1870 to 1940.  The gentleman in question is the above - married in 1902.  At the time his profession is 'drill instructor' - which ties in with your 'colour sergeant'.

It's a poor quality entry, but seems to indicate that his name was Richard Whyte?  'known as' Richard Martin Suggett.

If you pm me - I'll forward the entries.

HelloJenny

If you modify your message above to remove your e-mail address.  FYI, the only Richard Suggett dying in Scotland between 1855 and 2006 is the one above.  A re-look at the marriage entry has his parents as ? Martin not White- which would tie in with his middle name.

A look on the free bmd for England only brings up 2 - neither would fit in with your research.  Shall send you the marriage and death entries now.

Hello Peter,
Richard Suggett is my gr.gr. Uncle, he was born in London & brought up in Hanwell District school for the poor, (or perhaps it was called a workhouse)  from there he joined the Army at age 15 & went to Boer War,  he had a brother Abraham Suggett who also brought up in Hanwell &  joined the Army at age 15,    it seems that Richard had changed his name    put Martin in it, & put Charles down as his parents, in actual fact if this is my Richard his parents were  William Suggett & Mary Ann Higgins,   but on his Army record he put  next of kin   none, is it possible to get a copy of the photos off you please, my e-mail address  is    (*)
what is your connection to him,,,,          have a good day
