How did you find this bapts and amrriage on the pilot site so quickly. It usually takes me ages to scroll through all the pages???

I didn't find them on the Bishops Transcripts, though I have looked at them there since.

I originally found them using the simple and advanced search facility here http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

Ahaaa William was left an awful lot of money in 1836, so he may well have been a humble bricklayer beforehand  ;D Pity his wife didn't get to see it, she might have lived longer

Margaret Mather, Blackett Street, 21st December, aged 45

Maybe his wife was the money  ;D

Thanks again Jen  ;D
I've just been working on this lot too. It's driving me mad trying to find the Naters connection to this family. The Naters (my family) were quite well-off and I have a Thomas Naters but he's too far back!

I think William M was more than just a "humble" bricklayer. He
has an entry in the Newcastle and Gateshead Directory..
Mather, William, bricklayer and builder, 10 Stowell St
and was also a member of the Mechanics Institute along with quite a few well known names
It seems he also inherited £300, 000...a fortune not to be sneezed at  :o
Main names:
Scotland (Travellers) - Townsend/Townsley, Conway, Stewart
Lanark and Stirling - Jeffrey.
Northumberland/ Durham - Newton, Nixon, Sharp, Greaves, Naters
Warwickshire and London - Garfield.
Ireland, Co. Kerry - Marah/Meara/Mara, McClure, Howard, Melvin
Lincs - Smith, Vinter

other offshoots - Berry, Steven, Craig, Atkins, Fuller, , Stewart, Conway, Heather,
