And we thought we had it bad waiting a hundred years for the census???

Hopefully NZ is being unique and not leading a trend that would go global.  Anyone wanting fuller details can have the pleasure of going through this site...

Hi

Could you give a bit more details of what the initial request was about (without names if still living), I seem to recall something similar a short while ago and it related to an adopted person I think

And we thought we had it bad waiting a hundred years for the census???

Australian & New Zealand censuses were not kept so there are virtually none available One of the questions on the last couple of Australian censuses related to the keeping of the census for release in 100 years, whether the information of only those that answered yes is kept or not, I don't know, There are restrictions on who can access non-historical certificates in New Zealand, Australia and also the United States. If you wanted a copy of my adult Australian born childrens birth certtificates you would need their permission and send in 3 forms of my childrens ID, 3 forms of your own ID and if they were not originals then copies have to be certified by a police officer. I find it astonishing that, as I was born in England, anyone can get a copy of my birth certificate and I have no say in it.

This was for my Gt-Grandmother's birth registration. She was born in 1887. I found her in the BDM and I get this nonsense back, with a typed-up transcript of the registration, obviously removing certain information, but what they've removed they won't tell me, because that would obviously defeat the purpose of removing it.

1888/11674   Greig    Ellen Elizabeth    Jane   NR   -   Order Product

Still, sending a letter saying "we've censored some things but we're not telling you what" just makes it even worse.

She's my Gt-Grandmother, not theirs!

Hi,

I can't be 100% sure, but I am sure someone on here had the same letter as you, a few months or so back.... so hopefully, the RCer's who took part in that post,  should see this thread and will help you.

Cheers
KHP :)

Has anyone any idea who is pushing this barrow.

Why would you pay for something that is merely an interpretation by a disinterested party of what is actually written on the original and omitting what some jerk thinks is unnecessary to the purchaser?

The previous thread was from mid-May. It was called...

Interesting Letter From Internal Affiars

Putting that in the search engine should bring it up
