Reid, Alexander Younger

Hi

I was checking for a distant relative and found him on the Scottish Covenanter Index in the year 1650.  I know his name is Alexander Reid but they had Reid, Alexander Younger.   Does anyone know if this means his middle name is Younger or would it mean his fathers name was Alexander.
