1911 census problem
« on: Thursday 01 July 10 10:26 BST (UK) »
I've been searching 1911 census for several people that I had ample details on (names, birthdates, birthplaces, religion, occupations) I discovered a BIG problem.
If a person has listed 'Co.Derry' as place of birth and when searching for them you select 'Londonderry' as birthplace (under More Search Options) the results don't show that person.

Here's an example:
Search for Samuel Jas Gilmour under Antrim. Birthplace given as Co.Derry.
Now search for Samuel Jas Gilmour with Londonderry as birthplace. Nothing!
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Aghadowey,
I have found a similar problem. When looking for a Samuel I could not find him but when I eventually did he had entered his name as Saml. For this reason I enter as little information as possible to make the result a reasonable length.

Regards
Stewart, Irwin, Morrison, Haslett, Murrell - Dungiven area Co. Londonderry
Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh
Neil, Smyth _Co. Antrim

there is a temporary workaround for this ... although it's a bit techie..

Search for the name you are interested with the place of birth filter set to 'Co. Londonderry'.

Have a look at the URL for the results page for this - towards the end of the URL you will see a section 'marriageStatus=&birthplace=Londonderry&language=..'
change this part of the URL to 'marriageStatus=&birthplace=Derry&language=..' and hit enter

the same technique can be used to find people who enter a town or city as place of birth instead of a county.. e.g. Belfast

see : Samuel HC Gilmore he does not appear under Down or Antrim
