Hi ajaxbay

Welcome to Rootschat :D

in Battersea in 1901 George F Hollyoake 26 born Croydon is a railway under guard married to Amelia A 27 born Wothing Sussex, they have 2 sons George S H age 3 born Pevensey and Thomas born Battersea

Did your grandad work on the railway?

The marriage cert to Amelia would confirm his father, occupation etc

thanks jan-i belive this one is a red herring that i have come across before. the birth date comes out 2 years too late at 1875 . this is amazingly close but not the right man. amazingly a child born in pevensy just several miles from where my grandad moved to later on!

There seems to be a little too much guesswork going on.

It is best to start with information you are certain is correct -and have documentation to prove it .

It is not very wise to google a name and make a family tree from that .  It maay be the correct family but you can't be certain.

You have your Grandfather's birth cert already
What is his father's name and mother's (maiden) name on the certificate.

Then if you are certain he married Annie fry -it would be wise to get a copy of their marriage certificate -this will give you father's name and occupation and tell you whether he was a bachelor when he married .

He would be abt 46 yrs of age when he married Annie fry -so did he have many children ?? Were any born before 1919???

From the information you have given -this looks like George frederick - and it seems his father is using Charles as a forename
George is age 6 on this census -which gives him a birth year of c.1875 -so you can't rule out the George F married to Amelia in 1901 census . Birth years often differ on census
