Looking for LADNER
« on: Sunday 04 July 10 07:15 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I'm still a bit new, so I'm sorry if I don't ask this right...

I'm looking for information about the Ladner family. The Father, John was born abt 1804, the Mother, Sarah (not sure of maiden name) born abt 1812 had at least one child, Josepha Ladner b either 1837-1840 in Penzance.

Any information on where to find original records would be much appreciated.

Thankyou

Ashleigh

Hi Ashleigh,

I hope you have seen your replies to your other threads. We have been wondering if you saw your replies, since you have not replied.

John LADNER = Sarah ELLIS 7 Dec 1835 Madron.

Cornwall Census is Free Online

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,144624.0.html

John and Sarah can be found in Madron in 1841 with 3 children Will 5, Angelina 3 and Elizth 1 month. John is a shoe maker.

Josepha does however appear in Madron on the home of Mary BASSETT.

Since they emigrated in 1850 this is the only census they appear on.

I am not having any luck with baptisms. Madron records are online but I do not see any Ladners listed

Hi Kris,

I have seen the others, I just got a bit distracted during the week and kept forgetting to reply. Sorry!

Thanks for this piece of info. :) Dumb question, why would Josepha be in the home of Mary Bassett? would she possibly have been being baby sat for the night, considering there was such a small child in the home?

Ash :)

Also, on the census record it names Elizth (1 month) as a male. I would've thought that that was short for Elizabeth? What else could Elizth stand for?

Hi Ash,

I suspect the entry is wrong I can only think of Elizabeth. The child does not seem to arrive in SA.

LADNER Josepha was born Sep 1/4 1837 Penzance 9 129

There was an Elizabeth Ann born in the June 1/4 1841 in Penzance. It is the only Ladner birth in Penzance to fit this 1 month old. I can only suspect the enumerator got sidetracked writing 1 month and put in the wrong column.

Sorry I can't say what Josepha may have been doing in Mary Bassett's home on census night. As you say it may have been connected to the new babies arrival. She may or may not be connected to the family.

Found the following 'possibles' on the IGI website.

Josepha LADNER b.28.4.1840 Penzance died 14.10.1882 Nailsworth, South Australia
Spouse: William CHESSON b.7.10.1836 Gedney Dyke, Lincoln, England
Married 7.11.1861 Adelaide, South Australia
He died 16.10.1916.

Josepha's parents:
Father: Joseph LADNER christened 14.7.1811 Sancreed, Cornwall
Mother: Sarah Unknown born c1811 Cornwall, England
Marriage c1838 Cornwall.
Their children were:
1. Josepha (see above)
2. William Ladner b1843 Cornwall
3. Edwin Ladner b1846 Cornwall died 28.11.1887

There is a lot more information on this family going way back to 1631.
