Britcliffe family Rochdale

Hi I'm doing research into my GGGrandmother Mary BRITCLIFFE who was baptised in St. Chad, Rochdale, Lancashire on the 6th of August 1826 to John Britcliffe and Hannah/Ann. They were living in Small Bridge. Mary had three siblings James b 1828, Betty 1831 and Charlotte in 1833. I'm trying to find more details on the family for example I would like to know if Mary's three siblings married/died in Lancashire, I can't find any reference to this on the various records as yet. Mary was sent to Australia as a convict in 1846, she had been living on the streets of Manchester from a very early age, so I would like to know what were her families circumstances, Mary was in and out of prison many times (Salford) and I would like to find these records if possible, to get some insight into her early life. Any Suggestions ideas greatly appreciated Kind regards Dianna

Hiya Diana....there are 103 Lancashire Parish records for BRITCLIFFE on this site
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html
be back soon...
James bab 20th July 1828...same chrch and address
ok , by the time Betty is babtised the family are STILL having the children babtised in St Chads, Rochdale ..Betty 24th August 1831...BUT the abode is given as Manchester fathers occ Labourer.so they have moved to Manchester.
then back to Smallbridge in 1833 for Charlottes babtism 2nd sep 1833 in St Chads...
OK ...I have searched freebmd and NO marriages for Betty / Charlotte /James...so I now see your problem...nothing for marriages / deaths on the lan-opc site...
there is a death for Betty Britcliffe in dec qtr 1849 Haslingden. on freebmd
No Records at all for Charlotte Britcliffe
2 possible deaths for James Britcliffe..same area as Smallbridge one in Clitheroe and one in Haslingden 1860 and 1862....sorry Diana , but it doesn`t look good for a marriage for any of them..... allan

ELIZA GREER who was born in Hobart Tasmania
around 1858 to JAMES GREER and MARY BRITCLIFFE. James arrived in Tasmania as a free person on 01 Jan 1840 on board the MANLIUS but he was tried and became a convict in August 1840. Mary Britcliffe was also a convict.

Hi Everyone, Thanks so much for your help with the Britcliffes' I'm beginning to think that they may have immigrated or moved or perhaps died and there is no record but you would think that one of them would have been married but maybe not in England. I will have to have someone check on Ancestry to see if any of them emmigrated somewhere. Seeing as Mary their sister was in Tasmania then NSW I will check on that. I'ts a mystery. Thanks again Dianna

Hi Dotty Mary was 19 when she was tried in Mancester Sessions on the 4th of September 1845. She had been living on the streets for many years it seems and in and out of gaol as well. It states that Before convicted 10 times imprisoned for Vagrancey: lived by crime 7 years before convicted. So we are wondering what happened to her family now they have dissappeared as well. I still think that they may have emigrated, remains to be seen. Thanks Dianna
