'Worker' family of Bedfordshire
« on: Monday 05 July 10 19:29 BST (UK) »
Does any-one have any information on the 'Worker' family prior to 1780 in Bedfordshire or any other county?  The earliest record I have is a marriage of Richard Worker to Mary Riddy on 21st February 1780 at Wootton by Bedford.
Has anyone heard of this family called 'Worker' as I know that the name is not common?

Hello Wisteria16,
I have a copy of Haynes Bedfordshire Parish Register and there are some entries for the Worker family, starting about 1770, if you are interested I can extract for you?

  Thomas Worker son of Thomas
& George son of William also there in 1740
Streatley also has some in the mid 1700's.

cathymcc, a regular poster on this board, has an interest in the Workers from Beds. She's not logged in recently but it might be worthwhile sending her a personal message

Hello

My mother's maiden name is WORKER - and her family were all from Bedfordshire.    However, beyond the 18th C it seems they came from Norfolk, if you look at a cousins tree at tribal pages you will see more

cathy
Bedfordshire: Worker [Flitton]; Ames [Kempston]; Manton [Kempston]; Morris [?]; Valentine [Kempston]; Two & Osborn [Cranfield]

Herfordshire and West London: Brown [Kent in early 19th C]; Blackwell.
McCarthy [Clonakilty, County Cork - searching for needles in the haystack!] and LOSTY [Dublin]

Hi Cathy,
Thanks for your prompt reply.  I am new to 'rootschat'  so I don't know what you mean by tribal pages and how do I access them?  Please help.
