Yeh Cando - I also thought about those ones, but why would John Henry have left Wangaratta in 1938 to die in Melbourne if his son who died in 1939 in Wangaratta was still alive?

I suggest you google and read the history of Royal Park as it was also known as a home for the aged, destitute and infirm.  Perhaps the son was too ill to care for his aging father.    There were no occupations noted on the electoral roll for John Henry SMITH who was living at the same address as Albert and a female whom I assume was Albert's wife.

Hi Cando - Agnes Augusta Smith was burried in West Terrace Cemetery Adelaide, 29/9/1920 in a grave by herself.

The two Victorian deaths of John Henry Smith in 1938 appear to be unrelated. One is buried in the Springvale Cemetery and his age given means a birth around 1850.

The other is buried Melbourne general and is only 48.

There is only one other possibility for Victoria, the 1943 death at Blackburn with unkown parents. I have not found this burial yet.

Cheers

There are four deaths registered in the name of John Henry SMITH in 1938 aged 22, 48, 76 and 86 but the following one was the only one that I thought had any hope of being a match - born c1862 as you had stated

John Henry Smith born approximately 1860

SMITH John Henry
Parents unknown
At Royal Park  76 years  1938  Reg#5332

The burial record at Springvale for a John Henry SMITH in 1938 unfortunately does not give an age at death.

Joys of researching the name SMITH ;D

Hi Cando - Not much joy in Smith research. Tried looking for John Henrys' wife obit with no luck, however stumbled across newspaper announcement of his wedding in an unlikely place:

Sydney Morning Herald - Tuesday 6 April 1880

"SMITH - YON - March 18, at the residence of the bride's father, Second street, Brompton, by the Rev. Mr McEwin, John Henry Smith, of Sydney, to Agnes Alice Augusta Yon, eldest daughter of Mr William Yon, of Moonta."

Not much I know, but could infer John Henry lived in Sydney for some period of time, and that he had family there.

Forgot to mention friends - I did check John Henry in Victorian deaths, and the only two possibles were inconclusive:
1938 John Henry Smith - parents Unknown - age 77 died Royal Park
1943 John Henry Smith - parents Unknown - age 80 died Blackburn
Both of these are possibilities based on a birth date of 1860, but amount to a dead end as the parents are UNKOWN.
Cheers

Sure and slow Cando - since last posted, I have found that John Henrys eldest daughter, Florence Pearl Smith, was born 1887, Canterbury District NSW. This could indicate that he still had family in NSW, as his wedding was only in 1880 in Adelaide.
