Marriage customs, bride or grooms parish?
« on: Tuesday 06 July 10 20:38 BST (UK) »
A general question - not Louth specific but something which may help me unravel my family tree.

Can anyone enlighten on what is known or assumed was the general practice regarding whether the groom visited the parish of the bride for RC marriage ceremonies in the early 19th century ?
I realise that a lot of marriages at those times were involving future spouses from typically the same parish. However , was there a custom as there exists today to an extent that the bride's parish would host the marriage ?

typically marriages took place in the bride's parish... but there were exceptions
