The IGI does have the marriage of an Alexander Cameron to an Annabella McKenzie, Lochbroom, 8th February 1842.

Lochbroom  (centred on Ullapool but a very extensive parish) is the  part of Ross-shire that I know best.

Hi Stuart

I think you might have missed this form the other day  :-\

You can get a copy of the marriage/banns entry from Scotlands People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk It's pay to view but the search and view of the entry will only ocst £1.20 (6 units)  Units can be bought in multiples of 30 - £6

Official registration didn't begin in Scotland until 1855 so this would just be an entry in the parish registers and might not say very much - often just their names and location.

Ok Thanks for that.
I was taking it literally that they had no records prior to 1855.
Just been looking up the meaning of the village Achlunachan (gluineach, kneed, jointed, applied to grasses with jointed stalks ; Field of the jointed grass.
Looking at the 1851 census it is quite clear that there is a family inter-relationship between at least 3 of the 4 houses in the village.
It would have also been this family relationship that allowed the 2 boys to leave the mother there and depart to America and Australia.
The three brothers from the previous generation (I think) Alexander, Donald, & Murdoch are very interesting. My father is Duncan, Grandfather Donald Murdoch Alexander, G/grandfather Alexander Murdoch - Also an brother to g/gfthr called Duncan in Aust.
That the Murdoch in Scotland also went to Victoria in Australia is also of much interest. have talked to the Aussie relatives over the weekend and we believe that there was no contact between Alexander and subsequent family and what was probably his uncle even though they were in the same state. I guess it was possible that they did not know where each other was.
I will keep progress posted

Hi GW  :)

Before you go too far down the MacKenzie, Achlunachan route, Annabella's family were from Letters, a few miles to the NW of Achlunachan. Are there any MacKenzies showing for there?

Annabella's mother was a Jessie McGregor. Father Alexander MacKenzie.

MacKenzie was perhaps the most common name in the area (after McLeod  ;D ;D ;D ) It was traditional MacKenzie land (See Cromartie - Highland Life,  Richards and Clough, 1989 )

Ok
Here we go Guys.
I think I have the Murdoch from the previous generation that went to Australia.
Murdoch Cameron died 1878 in Victoria, aged 54, born Ross-shire, son of Alexander Cameron and Margaret Ross. Will get certificate no 10270 for that year to see what family he might have had.
This puts his birth at @1824. Other info from your end puts it around 1826 - he is looking good for the Uncle

Yep only problem is that they are all Aussies ;D ;D
I think we have a Rugby game against them in a couple of weeks ;D ;D
They are now so desperate to win that they have hired a Kiwi coach  ;)
Cheers
