Anyone familiar with installing TNG software?
« on: Saturday 10 July 10 09:53 BST (UK) »
I've managed to upload all the files to my web host but when I try and install the database tables to MySQL it just won't do it ::)

Thanks

I have not used TNG but I use phpgedview which is very similar, especially TNG's FAQ which says:
Quote
You will have to know your database name, your hostname, and your database username and password
Normally (from the little I have read on the TNG site, and this is just like phpgedview) you upload a gedcom to your site and TNG installs it into the database using the programme. How are you trying to go about it and at what point are you stuck? For instance can you address the main TNG programme?

I have uploaded all the program files and folders.

During the step by step install,I created MySQL database then next step is to load the Database Tables.

Here it just hangs

Thanks

And presumably you are loading the tables by importing a gedcom which you have put on the web site in the appropriate folder ("index" perhaps)? Or are you doing everything manually?

I am doing everything manually. No gedcom to upload.

Ah I'm finally registered for the TNG forum so hopefully they can help me.

Thanks falcybe

Well, good luck Annie,

But if you already have tables on your computer then really the easiest way to use programmes like TNG or phpgedview is to create a gedcom with your local programme and then upload that. Still, having written that, if/when you succeed manually then let us know how you did it :-)

cheers, falcybe

Ha!!

The most current problems here are:

1) Your online site doesn't have mysql set up. But obviously that is not the case as you have set the database up

2) The database exists but you haven't seen how to address it. To give you an example of how this can be frustratingly similar to your website, in the days when Rootschat.com had web space then the login to the site was yourname.rootschat.net and the login to the database was yourname_rootschat_net (the difference being underlines instead of dots)

I shall end this posting here and add more in a while
cheers, falcybe
