I see from the results that there is someone using the name Philp posting about his family. if you click on the scroll next to his name you will be able to send him a personal message ONCE you have posted 3 times on here.

there are 75 entries for burials of PHilps on the Fife death CD available form the fife FHS online. 7 Roberts but none that immediately stand out as yours (ie mention of wifes name).

I don't know about Philps in Crail in the 1600s, but they were certainly still there in the 1950s and -60s when I was growing up in nearby Cellardyke. Kathy Philp from Crail was a conductress on the local Alexander's buses running between Leven and Newport (before they built the Tay Road Bridge).

Hi Philg65,

Interested in you note. I am now researching my family, Philps of Fife. William Philp married Isabelle Weepers in Anstruther 1800s. He is believed to be the son of John Philp who drowned off Largo in early 1800s. William came to Australia in 1850 and settled in Tasmania and I am one of that family.

Eager to know any more about your Philps

hi Peter
Sorry I have not got back to you before now but I have had a busy last few weeks. I do have a John Philp in my family tree about the time you are looking for John Philp born 07/05/1784 in Crail. I do not have much information on him
his father was Robert Philp born Crail 02/02/1721 he was married to Isobell
Brown in Crail 06/05/1764. They had 9 of a family John Philp was the youngest.
Largo is not very far from Crail so it is possible family connection I will try to find  any information I can. My surname is Philip it was changed from Philp to
Philip in 1805 by David Philp born in Crail 1776. I do have a great deal of information on the Philp/Philip family so if I can help you please feel free to ask. You may be a member of The Fife Family Society if not it is worth looking
into it.

All The Best

Re Philp in Largo, in 1875 an Elizabeth Philp from Drummochy, Largo, married a sea-captain called David Watson (no relation to me) at Lower Largo. Elizabeth was the daughter of Benjamin Philp, commission agent, and his wife Euphemia Kirk.

David Watson and Elizabeth Philp had a son called Benjamin Philp Watson who was born in Anstruther in 1880 and became a doctor, specialising in gynaecology. He moved to Canada, then to the USA, where he married a senator's daughter. Among his various honours were Professor of obstetrics & gynaecology at the University of Toronto, Professor and Emeritus Professor at Columbia University and President of the New York Academy of Medicine.

The Benjamin Philp who married Euphemia Kirk in 1843 died at Drummochy, Largo, in 1892, aged 72. He was the son of John Philp, wheelwright, and Janet Russell.

A Benjamin Dott Philp married Barbara Reekie in 1817 (recorded in St. Monans and Elie), and in 1851 they were living in Elie, where Benjamin was a master tailor. He died in 1863 and was the son of Robert Philp and Janet Dott.
