Looking up on the 1881 census , Ive found a family relative born in Ireland named jas .

Can anyone tell me what was it short for ?

Jason was a fairly uncommon name and Jas. is the usual abrviation for James. If you search for any Jasons in Co. Carlow in the civil index there are no results.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks again , this is from Liverpool Census born in Ireland ( Father is Patrick clearly states Carlow Leinster )

Now have the  difficulty of tracking their parish now .
