Hi all,
Thanks for all your work. I sent a reply with more detail but looks like didn't go through.
The reason we are chasing info on Edward Getley is that my wife's g/g/grandmother Clara Hempstead came out to Aust with husband Isaac Hempstead & children left Liverpool-England on the 12 April 1857 on board the "ALOE" & arrived Sydney on the 31 July 1857. Isaac went out to Blayney to work and never came back to Sydney. He is buried out there. Clara died at her home Liverpool Rd Enfield on the 6 June 1896 but on her headstone (Rookwood cemetery) she is Clara Getley buried with her grandson Horace Hempstead. Edward Getley was living at Liverpool Rd Enfield in 1896. Can't find a marriage for Edward & Clara so I think that in todays terminology they shacked up together. What I have found for Edward is:
From Sands Directory.
1870                 South Head Rd Old Wlhra
1877                 Grose St Camperdown
1883                 212 Bourke St Alexandria
1886-7             "Bradlaugh House" Great Buckingham St Redfern
1888                 629 Bourke St Burwood
1889-93           44 Westmoreland St Forest Lodge (Glebe)
1894                 67 Pyrmont Bridge Camperdown
1895-?             Liverpoll Rd Enfield
1899-07           13 Foveaux St Burwood

Maybe died at the above address?
-------------------------------------------
From Sands Directory.
Arthur Getley
1903            60 Arthur St Burwood
1904-07      78 Arthur St Burwood

Don't know if related?

Sorry for putting into 2 replies.
The M Weaver who put in the memorial article about Edward was Clara's & Isaac's daughter Mehannah Weaver & the Henry Charles Hempstead that krisesjoint mentioned was Clara & Isaac's son. Clara's death cert. name as Clara Hempstead (headstone as Getley) with the informant shown as Edward Getley "Lansdown" Liverpool Rd Enfield (not related) he has also shown Clara's parents exactly by name in England.
If they were not related then why would she have Getley as a surname on her headstone (speaking to myself just now) See it gets you that way.
Anyway thankyou all you great people for helping.
Regards
Anderson

hi
My grand dad William Getley b29 April 1882 in Stafford, travelled to America on the Baltic to New York in 1905.  We are looking for any information concerning his walk across America to Canda with his brother Chales Heney Getley.  Maybe related to the Edward Getley you are searching for.  He left America ? but Charles was on a boat with his sister-in-law from London to New Zealand in 1908.  We believe but unsure there father was a Joseph.  Any help would be appreciated.  Either through here or e-mail
