Hi

Did you get the mothers maiden name from the birth cert of one of the children?

With a name like Mehetabel Murrill I would think the marriage would have been easier to track down.

On the Seax there is a Mehetabel Smith who is a widow in Sible Hedingham in 1821

Too early for your one but could be her mother.  Sible Hedingham is about 20 miles from Colchester :)

Hi

There are no Went/Murrill marriages on freebmd between 1837 and 1841.

Thomas Went junior was born Dec quarter 1840 Tendring 12 222.

In the 1851 Mihetable plus children - Thomas, Alfred, James, Matilda and Emily (8 mths) are on the census, but no sign of Thomas. However in 1861 he is back with the family and there are 4 more children. This time Mihetable is down as Matilda.

hi ben
yes got met,s name off 2 birth certs so must be right also my own grandma was called mehetabel  apparently it,s a name from the old testament ?, you would think with a name like that she,d be easy to find i should also point out that on the 1861 census she,s down as matilda & on the 1871 census as mal ??

teaurn
on the 1851 census met  says she was born in colchester but we all know how reliable our forebears were for knowing where they were born  , hadnt thought to look as far as sible for a link but who knows you could be right thanks for that

hi groom
yes i,ve got that info re bmd &census the reason thomas is missing i found him in london in 1851 , Thomas was a  sawyer i believe he or his son thomas started a timber yard in colchester as it was still in the family in the early 1900,s so wouldnt be surprised if he was buying timber at the time of the 1851census
thanks for your trouble groom much appreciated
