Look Up Please for Alexander Watson
« on: Wednesday 14 July 10 19:53 BST (UK) »
I have found him in the 1881 Census:-
Age 20, Farm Servant, Quothquan Village, Libberton, Lanark, States he was born in Libberton.

Any more information on him would be gratefully received reagrding Census data etc.

Caution: He is not to be confused with another Alexander Watson also born in Libberton and middle name Tod.

Thanks in advance

Additional info'; I was informed that the other Alexander (Tod) was in Colinton, Edinburgh regarding the 1881 Census.

Therefore they would appear to be different people.

Hi Ronbucks

There is only one Alexander Watson - the one with Tod as a middle name - showing as born in Libberton on IGI at www.familysearch.org. What else do you have on your Alexander? How have you worked back to him?

This is all I have on him. He was named in Kirk Register as father of an illegitimate child but he never went on to marry the mother.

So this all I have to go on.

Yes I found this Alexander (Tod) as well he is a twin.

Nothing that would fit for the 1861 census, except for the Alexander Tod. On IGI, there is this entry:

ALEXANDER WATSON  Birth: 28 JUL 1861 Carnwath, Lanark
Parents: WILLIAM WATSON and BARBARA NIMMO

LIbberton and Carnwath are next door to each other, see www.scotlandsfamily.com/parish-map-lanark.htm. The above birth entry on IGI is the closest I can see for those years.

Most of the children showing on IGI for this couple show as born in Carnwath. This looks to be the family just before the birth of Alexander above in 1861 - everyone born in Carnwath unless shown:

William Watson 42, miner b. Weedornear, Leablesshire (rubbish transcription!)
Barbara Watson 34
George Watson 16
William Watson 7 b. Bathgate, Linlithgowshire
Robert Watson 1
George Beveridge 52, step father miner

Address: Village Of Forth, Carnwath

And in 1871, after the son Alexander was born:

William Watson 53, mason
Barbara Watson 46
William Watson 11
Robert Watson 11
Alexander Watson 9 b. Forth
Mary Watson 8
William Frost 51. lodger

Address: Muirhall No 2, West Calder Midlothian

:'( Scrub my last post, should have checked before I posted! The Alexander from Carnwath still shows with family in 1881 living in West Calder, so can't be the same one as you have found on the 1881 census showing a Libberton birth place.

Is there anything else on minutes from the Kirk regarding your Alexander that we could use to search?

Thanks Monica

This one is going to take a bit of researching.

Hope I can find death, marriage or census for him after 1881 and will also have to see 1881 Census for Colinton based Alexander with my own eyes.

Cheers Ron

Nothing else in Kirk Register apart from it is 1883 entry.

So he was in Quothquan 1881-1883 at least

I had Kirk Register entry for a while before I found him in 1881 census and all the details that were in Kirk Register are on census apart from additional details of his birth in Libberton.
