Hi Jan,
don't know how to use this site what is the easy way to reply ill have to look at hints and tips page,
but I'm too excited to work it out!

Just spoken to mum her dad, my grandfather is Horace Lionel Wharrad born 1911- 2008 if you want some info on his life and to see a pic of him look at The Croquet Gazette issue 314 p. 6

OK, I've sent you a PM with my email so you can write to me direct.  We would need to know Horace Lionel's parents names to get a bit further back but I would say he's almost certainly a relative.
