PETER, PAUL AND ANTHONY EVASKED, EVASKETT...???
« on: Today at 15:08:45 »    Reply with quote Modify message
my great-great-grandmother on my maternal side was a mary evasked (nee mcguinness) who died in 1930. her daughter mabel was my great-grandmother, she had three brothers, namely peter, paul and anthony. they lived on wrightsons lane in dundalk during the 1911 census. i would like to contact anyone of this surmame to find out more about mary's husband joseph, who she married in brighton, england in 1898 and lived for a time at 44 scotland street. his father was simon and i believe they may have been of polish/ prussian origin and i have found people of this surname in the oxfordshire area.

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat :D

Do you already have Joseph and Mary in Brighton in 1901 with children Mary and Joseph? I can post details if you don't. Joseph senior  gives his birthplace as Poland.

thanks for your reply Jan. yes i have the 1901 english census entry for 44 scotland street and i also have their marriage cert. it's such an unusual name and my polish friends say it is not a polish name. also there was no poland in 1901, only prussia. thanks again for your interest. any other information would be greatly appreciated.  :) ;) Gabhanach O'hEochaidh

Hi Gabhanach

Could be an anglicised version of a Polish name perhaps?? Any Polish names your friends can think of beginning Evask or similar? Odd that it says Poland in 1901  -  suggesting that the people who lived there still called it Poland eventhough it was no longer an independent state :-\
By the way their 1901 address is 75 Hanover St

:) thanks again. yes i tried that spelling method. almost unheard of for a polish name to start with an "E"or a vowel. they all suggested the baltic nations, maybe latvia. also checked a huge data base of polish surmames of 70,000 plus.........no joy.
