Here's the family in 1911 census living in New Westminster, B.C.
Father's name listed as Samuel C. McMillan.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I wonder how the Mcmillans came to being in Canada? Also Monica found a John Mcmillan and his family, could taht of been a brother to Samual Mcmillan??

If you read back to reply #6 you'll see that Melvin's parents were both born in Ontario. It's possible the family lived in Canada for quite a while before that- I think McMillan is a fairly common surname in Ontario (my uncle's mother was McMillan from Ontario).

There are at least 3/4 Samuel McMillans born c. 1877 with an Ontario birth place in the earlier censuses - hard to know which one he could be without additonal info such as a father's name.

Maybe the 1940 marriage cert here in England might be an easier way to proceed unless something can be found more definitive on the Canadian side.
