Belle Vue Hotel in Port Erin
« on: Sunday 18 July 10 09:33 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have a small photo album of my grandparents (Alfred Lawrence Kemp and Margaret Catherine Owens) working in Port Erin in 1930, my grandfather's porter's uniform shows Belle Vue Hotel on the lapels and there are background images of Bradda Head, Milner Tower, Cosy Nook Cafe so my research so far confirms Port Erin.

I am seeking a photo/image of the Belle Vue Hotel in particular if it exisited?
I cant find it on the internet today so maybe it was demolished and where did it stand and what street?

They seem to have gone to work there from Liverpool and perhaps it was a good retreat circa 1929 due to the depression.

Any comments or photos appreciated, thanks.

Gareth,

I stayed there in the late 1970's - it is/was  on the front overlooking the beach and sea.

Thanks Glenys, can you recall the name of the road it was in?

Hi Gareth,

I noticed your message as a new user today so decided to take a walk up to the Belle Vue Hotel this evening as it was such a lovely evening. the Belle Vue Hotel is indeed still standing but is now called The Port Erin Hotel, boarded up and will no doubt be demolished in the next year or so like many of the neighbouring hotels on The Promenade. My husband tells me that it used to be a very popular hotel in its heyday back in the 50s to the 70s.

I have taken a couple of pictures for you, one of the hotel as it stands now and one of the view from the hotel this evening as the sun was going down. Unfortunately I have been unsuccessful in attaching the phots on the webpage so if you have an email address i can send them to i would be happy to do so.
