Clement Philip Smallwood
« on: Tuesday 20 July 10 12:04 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the obituary of my Gt Uncle Clem he was an editor of the Birmingham Post and  Mail or the Argus, and died in 1963 in the Birmingham Mail Offices. My enquiries there have met with a stonewall have been trying for months NOTHING, ZILCH. There must be something somewhere, being in New Zealand its a bit difficult to get to the archives of the BP&M to check things out. Any assistance would be appreciated.

For Bonnie66,

I have a page on Clem and Essie, focusing on Essie, her background, their locality etc that you may not have seen.

I can print it here, or try to find the URL, as you wish.

Kind regards from someone who knew them both at the time.

Hi Amazin

Thank you so much would love to see what you have.

Can you send it to me at (*) I would have PM'd you but as you are a new member you dont have that function yet.

How did you know Clem and Ess? I loved going to Clems office as a child and seeing the workings of the newspaper Grandpa used to take the sports results to his office and I was always "tagging" along. I have a lovely photo of Clem from the BPM unfortunately when my parents came to NZ a great deal of the family photos were left in UK with other family members. Auntie Ess was my favourite because even in the ration time she always had sweets.

Thanks again for your reply

Hi Dyan in New Zealand,

I stumbled on your chat by chance and I am a family member of Clem Smallwood and Essie Smallwood (Nee Hodson). I am a bit reluctant to post too much on the public domain and will need to have a few postings to get onto the PM.

how are you getting on with your search?

Pete

Hi Dyan,

Thanks for PM. I have realised that my email may go straight to your junk box as my email ends in ".org".

Let me know via PM if you do not receive.

Cheers,

Pete
