cowley family
« on: Wednesday 21 July 10 14:09 BST (UK) »
G'afternoon,
I am hoping that someone will be able to help me trace the Cowley Family from Adreas, Isle of Man.
I am looking for Robert Cowley bn 1821 christened 12 Dec 1824.
His parents were Robert Cowley and Catherine Quayle.
Robert mrd Hannah Wood bn 1826 in Egremont, Cumberland. They had 4 children Matthew, Sarah, Daniel and Mary.
In 1861, the family were living in Ravenglass, Cumberland where Robert was a Grocer and Tea merchant. Hannah died in 1865 and there is no trace of Robert after that.
The children were brought up by their aunt and uncle Daniel and Sarah Wallace of the King's Arm's in Ravenglass.
Does anyone have any information about what happened to Robert Cowley?
Also, I think his parents Robert and Catherine moved to Liverpool?
With Kind Regards
Bullamore

the dates above appear to be confused - esp marr date - also the 3yr gap between bith & baptism is very unusual for the rural parishes - there is a Robert Cowley + Cath Quayle with son Robt of this date but they were in Malew (other end of Island) - he is a miller and can be found with son Robt etc in Braddan in 1841 (judging from address at Puklrose which had a mill at that time) tho they don't appear to be in 1851 IoM census
any thing with a Manx Connection
