GreenwoodCemetry OwenSound Ont BurrowsGrave
« on: Wednesday 21 July 10 16:25 BST (UK) »
I hope someone who has a fancy for walking around graveyards might be able to help me with this one.
I've just discovered that my  great grandfather's brother and his wife lived and died in Ontario Canada. He was William Arthur Burrows, born in Sligo, Ireland in 1862, 28 Feb.  By 1901 he was married to Ida Doyle, a Canadian girl of Irish decent and living in Ontario.  He was a banker.  I've traced them to Greenwood cemetry, Owen Sound, Derby, Grey County, Georgian Bluffs, Ontario...  if I can get a look at the headstone, I will have their dates of death.

I found their names on the OCFA site:

BURROWS, Ida May (Doyle) Greenwood, Owen Sound (North Extension II) Grey Derby BG-G-042-N2
BURROWS, Arthur (name only) (h/o Ida May Doyle) Greenwood, Owen Sound (North Extension II) Grey Derby BG-G-042-N2

(I dont know to what the code refers.)

So if anyone is out walking their dog in the area, will you take a look in the Northern Extension section and see if you can find them for me and maybe even take a photo? I doubt if anyone has visited their grave since they died, as they were childless. I'd really appreciate it.
Regards,
Clarissabel

Thanks a million for that - but I am a bit puzzled as their names are not there - or at least his isn't - and Ida is noted as being 0 years old....
'G-BLM- 19- 8 Burroughs, Ida May Age: 0

Looking further down the list of those interred in the grave, I notice that Ida's father is buried there. I wonder if Ida and Arthur were buried in the family grave and so are not listed on the complete OwenSound Internments List. ANy thoughts?

Morning Clarissabell,

You may want to contact the cemetery administration and they may be able to helpy out. I have done this before and found most admistration veery friendly and willing to help. Another thing you may want to do is contact an RAOGK voluteer in the area to take a picture of the marker or tombstone. I have found these people very friendly and willing to help as well.

Here are the web addys:

http://www.raogk.org/ontario.htm

Hope this helps,

Thanks JDC and JAM  :)  I took a chance and emailed the local library and the very nice lady there had some infomation.  Apparently Arthur is not buried with his wife Ida.  She was buried in her family plot.  Here is what it reads:

DOYLE

Mary Stephens d. Feb. 16, 1892

aged 63 yrs. 24 days

wife of Richard J. Doyle

d. Oct. 26, 1903

in 69th year

Ida May

d. March 25, 1924

wife of Arthur Burrows

Evelyn E. Doyle

d. Feb. 9, 1930

Winnifred E. Doyle

d. March 2, 1942

How helpful!  I will do as you suggest and  get in touch with RAOGK - apparently the code referred to earlier refers to the location of the grave in the cemetry - so I have really discovered so much already.
Now to find Arthur??

When Arthur married Ida Doyle March 7 1888 at Owen Sound it was as William A. Burrows.  In the 1911 census he was in Leamington Essex South Ontario.  His death might be under either or both William/Arthur.

Thanks a million Debbie!  What a find!   I was unable to locate a marriage record and have been searching in Ireland and in Canada, so that is great to have.  Is that marriage record available to view online?
Yes, Arthur was born William Arthur Burrowes.  He had a younger brother William Henry, born in 1882, so whenever a William was mentioned, we thought it was William Henry who was being refered to.

Thanks for your help again.   :D
