1911 Census Confusion?
« on: Friday 23 July 10 23:05 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Just A Quick Question, It seems that My Great Grandfathers Brother, George Harper, could be on the 1911 census twice, in two different places, the one census  living with his mother and Grandmother, and younger brother, henry. And the other with his Father and his other grandmother. His Parents were not split up, as they had another child two years later. the only difference is the Birthplace (on the mothers one he's listed as being born in Heath town, Staffordshire (Near Wolverhampton) and in his Fathers one he's listed as 'St George, Wolverhampton'),
Im All but certain that is the same person, as he would only of been 3 Years old at the time of the census.
Would This Of Been Possible?
 ???

With Regards,

Joel Fraser

My grandad's sister was on twice in 1901, once with friends, once at home.

I seem to recall (on this board) a whole family appearing twice, once in England and once in Wales :)
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

It's not that uncommon for people to appear twice in the census.
My grandmother, 5 years old, is listed twice in one census- once visiting grandparents and again with her parents at home.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I had a very well educated ancestor who on the 1911 census listed ALL his 8 children, the married daughters under their single & married names and all living "AT HOME".  Obviously they were all at their own homes and not living with him.  So I got 9 census returns from this, but best of all I was able to find a 4 daughters, 1 of which I had "lost" off the 1901 census.  So I am really grateful for his confusion.

The 1911 census is the first one where the data written by the householder has not been re-written by the enumerator onto his own records. (I think that makes sense ;))

Not quite true - it was also written up by the enumerator and the previous censuses had householders records like this originally - it is just the information that is still available to us and online that differs.  Much more fun this way though!

1841 Census - HO107/1302/7 has duplicate entries for every single person.  Folio 13, page 20 to folio 22, page 40 is an exact duplication of folio 5, page 1 to folio 12, page 18.  Could be why I can't find my great great grandfather  ;D
