Anyone recognise this house in Malvern Wells?
« on: Saturday 24 July 10 23:18 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,
basically this is a photo I found at a relatives house, says ormonde cottage beneath the photo as you can see. Been trying to find where the house is situated for ages.
on 1911 census an ormonde cottage is to be found in malvern wells with a wood family living in it (same as mine)
So do any locals recognise it?

Hope someone can help.
Kind regards, Nick.

have consulted my 1928 street directory and there was an Ormond Cottage in The Assarts, Malvern Wells (Henry Wood - a baker)

However the picture does not look like the Assarts Road I know. It is very steep and the house in the photo is on the flat. However "The Assarts" may have had a different start and finish to the modern Assarts Rd.

I have a couple of other directories - I will try to narrow it down for you.

It is a lovely picture. Have you tried searching the area on Google Earth to see if you can spot it?

After a bit more research I think The Assarts was split some time in the 30's into Assarts Rd, Assarts Lane & Kings Road.

Because of the background and apparent flatness of the surroundings in your picture, I don't think it was in any of these Roads. I will have another think to see if anywhere springs to mind...

Netti - Okay thanks alot you are really helpful :)
Just seen this on google with flattish land and similar building?

I have just been looking on google earth, it is difficult to see whether or not the house is there.

I hope that the Ormonde cottage is actually the one in malvern and havnt just been on a wild goose chase!

Nick.

That house is much further down the Assarts than Ormond Cottage. I think Ormond was along Kings Rd.

In my directory it has Stanley Cottage one side & Poplar Cottage the other. There is a house at the top of Assarts Road which is very similar but no bay window upstairs and not as much space in front. Also I am pretty certain this house was called Hill View and was part of the Abbey School for Girls.

I have friend who lived along Kings Rd until quite recently, I will ask her if she knew of Ormond Cottage. It doesn't appear in my later directories but may have been renamed.
