Richard Jones, 1858 Amlwch birth
« on: Tuesday 27 July 10 22:47 BST (UK) »
Richard Jones, born 1858, was born in Amlwch to Jane Jones and her seaman husband John Jones.  He is in the 1861 and 1871 Amlwch census.  Circa 1873, his widowed mother Jane and siblings John S. and Margret and William all immigrated to the United States.

Any ideas on how I can find out what happened to him.  L103

And from findmypast free 1881 census search, (assuming the 1891 census is right ) then it looks like he was living at the household of R.G. Powell (farmer of 300 acres) in Maerog, Clynnog RG11/5562 folio 31 page 16

Rich. Jones , servant, single age 21, farm servant (indoor) b Amlwch

Hi,

That looks like a possibility for him.  The children names John and Jane are a match to my family names.

The only thing is that I think there was a second Richard Jones born in Amlwch circa 1858.  I'm not a member of Ancestry right now.  Could you look in the 1871 census and see if there is a second Richard Jones that could cause us a conflict.

And, it is interesting, IF this is my Richard, that he would be the only member of the family to stay back in Wales.

Hi again

There are 5 Richard Jones b Amwlch around the right age on the 1871 census (from freecen so it's free to have a good search round).

1.  b Amlwch  (Park Mawr) ,farmer's son, age 12 parents Richard & Elizabeth
2. b Amwlch age 15 son of Richard (widower), a stonemason b LLanbadrig
3. b Amwlch age 18 labourer, son of Mary Jones, widow, pauper b Amwlch
4. b Amwlch age15, labourer, parents Hugh & Mary
5. b Amwlch age 12 son of Margaret (says wife)

And a Richard O Jones b Amwlch which seems to be yours, Turkey Shore, Amwlch RG10/5747 folio 16 page 23

Jane age 39, head, widow, dressmaker b Amwlch
Richard O son age 10, scholar b Amwlch
Margret daughter age 8 scholar, b Amwlch
John S son age 6 scholar b Amwlch

If you have a look at freecen it might help to narrow down which Richard is which, good luck

The Richard & Catherine Jones listed at Hafod y Rhiw Bach in 1891 had a daughter called Catherine born in 1892 and she was baptised at Capel Uchaf Methodist chapel. In the transcribed records, it states that the mother's name had previously been Prichard. There is a possible marriage for a Richard Jones in Caernarvon district in June 1881     Carnarvon    11b   725

The marriage did not occur in Clynnog church, but if their marriage certificate was obtained, this would give you this Richard's father's name.
