S. Marks Church Camberwell and Coward Street 1926
« on: Friday 30 July 10 00:35 BST (UK) »
I have a copy of a marriage certificate from 1926.  The certificate says that the marriage was solemnized at S. Marks Church in Camberwell and both bride and groom were living in Coward Street but I cannot find any trace whatsoever of either the church or the street ever existing!!

Can anyone shed any light on this?

There was a church called St Mark's in Cobourg Street. It's now a mosque:

There was also a St Marks church in Harders Road, Peckham, Camberwell District.

You also have to look at the possibility that this church & road are in the part of Camberwell which runs along the Albany Road (from Walworth Road to Old Kent Road) along where the old canal ran.  This area was badly bombed during WW2 and once the canal became defunct and was filled in Burgess Park was enlarged and now this runs the full length of Albany Road.

The junction of Albany Road, Walworth Road and Camberwell Road is I believe where the Walworth Turnpike was situated which is mentioned in David Copperfield?  I know that Uriah Heep passed through to go home every day.  (Was it David Copperfield, having a senior moment!)
Fleming (Bristol) Fowler/Brain (Battersea/Bristol)    Simpson (Fulham/Clapham)  Harrison (W.London, Fulham, Clapham)  Earl & Butler  (Dublin,New Ross: Ireland)  Humphrey (All over mainly London) Hill (Reigate, Bletchingly, Redhill: Surrey)
Sell (Herts/Essex/W. London)

How legible is 'Coward Street '?
Could it be Carew, Coburg, Cossall, Cowna, Crebos or Cunard?
