Gaelic, slios = coast, side, border.   Skoosh.

So what they were saying was that home was Kempt Head, and the other two sons had left and were living on the coast (slios)
Do you have any idea where you find places in Canada from the Census reference (in this case 1871 F1 60 63).

I don't know what is more frustrating, looking for Scots in Scotland or Scots in Canada - they're fairly easy in NZ as long as you know where they lived.

My ancestors who went to NZ kept the Gaelic, my great great grandfather had little english, and in the place they settled, Waipu, New Zealand, church services were conducted in Gaelic for years.
