That would be great, thankyou very much. It would be lovely to see an old photo of the place they lived and like you said it will now probably be a whole lot easier to find one.

Mind you though, i'm waiting for a book to arrive at my local library titled " Remember Markyate, Flamstead & Trowley" by  Reg A Nelsey, it contains a lot of old photos, family names, and maps etc etc, apparently he was a chap who lived in Markyate and from 1906 he wrote memoirs, and after he died they were printed.

Thanks again for your help.

GOOGLE MAPS - go walking up the High Street
http://www.rootschat.com/links/09nl/

For district 6, the enumerator walked up the High Street, going north, until he reached dwelling 116 occupied by Thomas Cain, a blacksmith AND Publican.
Kelly’s 1902 directory for Markyate lists Thomas Cain as “The White Hart”

Dwelling 117 is occupied by a farmer so I lean towards the farmer being in No 1 High Street and the (now) cottages being the (then) old smithy.
If not so, then (118) North Cottages? Take your pick of what you see.
If so, then (118) North Cottages are likely to be literally just the other side of the A5. So if you work google to the A5 junction then you can just see likely dwellings on the other side.

If you hang around High Street/White Hart then google eventually gives you some very nice fotos.

Enjoy.

(118) North Cottages or an old smithy next to the pub?

Hi
Just checking you did find a photo of the house. If not I might be able to help as I live close. I have noticed that their sons are on the local war memorial. You might know all this already if not let me know and I will get you some photos if the cottage is still there, I know  where the war memorial is.

Hi China

I have been down in the village and had a walk around, I could not find North Cottages. The cottages on google earth next to The White Hart are north of the High Street and go north up the A5, so seems they could have been North Cottages. A friend of mine lives in one of them, will contact her. Next to the White Hart (now a House) there is an under pass that leads down to Church End where the local church is (The other side of the A5), I wonder if this was Chapel Lane which is on page 23 of the 1901 census, a clue to this is" The Cell" which is a mansion  and is still there. Luton Road is on the same side of the A5 as The Cell and Church End runs of it, there are no old cottages along there now.  I am waiting a return call from a local historian who might know more and I will let you know.
Church Walk in Dunstable where they lived in 1911 is walkable from Markate ( in those days, not now we are soft).

I took photos of the memorial and your family names including Loveridge, if you would like the pictures send me personal message with your email and I will send them on.
