Jane Lee - Kirkhaugh c1773
« on: Monday 02 August 10 12:54 BST (UK) »
Jane Lee married Henry Ridley in Kirkhaugh in 1799; her census entries say that she born in Kirkhaugh in about 1773.

Three of their six children are named after Henry and his parents, so their eldest child (Joseph) may, unusually, have been named after Jane's father.

A cousin, Thomas Moor, mentions Joseph Lee of Stoney Hill, Allendale in his will but that Joseph is too young to be Jane's father as he married Mary Moor in 1791; but he may be related.

Most of their family are comparatively well off and own land (which doesn't mean a great deal at that time and place) so the Lees may be the same.

I would be grateful for any references to Jane, particularly her baptismal entry. I realise I could contact the Northumberland RO but as printed copies exist I hope somone may have access to them.

the BT's for Kirkhaugh are online but unfortunately the records Jump from 1772 - 1778. However there is:

William  s/o Thomas Lee of Harelaw bap 9/9/1770

Margaret Lee d/o Joseph lee of Barhaugh bap 19/4/1771

Anne lee w/o Joseph of Barhaugh bur 9/5/1771

so there was a Joseph lee about at the right time!!

Thanks very much. Two baptisms separated by only three weeks seems unusual.

Thanks again.

I know a little about Kirkhaugh/Knarsdale as other ancestors, particularly the Moors owned land there.

Can you give me a link to the BTs please?

Diddy seems to have gone so here is the link to the BTs

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=waypoint&s=waypointsOnly&c=fs%3A1309819&w=0

They are not indexed but have to be gone through page by page - a bit like a microfilm
