Newburn marriage Lookup
« on: Monday 02 August 10 17:47 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am looking for a marriage Between Septimus Forster and a lady called Hannah.  My gut instinct is that they were married in Newburn as his sister Ann was married here when living at the same address.

I cannot find a marriage on Free BMD, however I have found a Hannah Lee married in first quarter of 1870 with no matching spouse.  Hannah and Septimus are showing on the 1871 census with Son William.  Living in Black Callerton and the surname transcribed as Forston.

I know that Septimus died in 1880, but know nothing of what happened to his wife and child/children.   ???

I have tried looking on the BT's for Newburn but can only see baptisms and Burials.

If anyone can assist with finding the marriage for these two, this should hopefully give me confirmation of the surname of Hannah.

Hi,

It is not Hannah Lee, the reference was 10b page 361.  (they missed the 1 off the end)  the other partners for the page were:
John Bewick, Thomas Hetherington, and Elizabeth Catherine Winship

Regards,
Mo

I have tried looking on the BT's for Newburn but can only see baptisms and Burials.

For the most part you won't find marriages on the BT's after 1837 when Civil Registration began.

There is a Septimus Forster and a Hannah Margaret Poole on the same page of marriages for Sunderland in December Qtr 1878,

Sorry that is too late.

I only think it is a too late marriage if it occured after 1880.

Maybe you will have to get the birth cert for William to find the mother's maiden name.   There are 2 for the first quarter of 1871 one is William Forster and the other William George Forster.  Plain William is 1871 Mar ¼ Castle Ward 10b 256 and the William George is page 260

Hi Mummy G  :)

These aren't the originals, they are the 'Bishops Transcripts' which Emma has already mentioned in her original posting.

I can do a quick look up on Wednesday when I'm at the archives, if that's any good.
