Leighton/Lighton/Island/Hyland of County Sligo
« on: Saturday 02 April 05 04:12 BST (UK) »
Have hit a brick wall in every effort to locate a Parish/location in County Sligo for my ancestors George Leighton/Lighton and his wife Margaret Island/Hyland.
I found a record of a marriage between George Leighton and Margaret Hyland, 1827, page 64 in the Index to Diocese of Killala and Achonry Marriage Bonds.
I am sure this couple are my g. g. grandparents.
How/where can I find more information about these people?
George was born c. 1803, Margaret c. 1800.
George's siblings were probably Joseph, Jane, Eliza.
Margaret probably had a brother Michael who we think married Eliza sister of George.
Margaret and George's children were Joseph b. ca. 1828,  Margaret b. c. 1831, John b. ca. 1837(perhaps in month of Nov.), and Ann b. April 17th, 1845, Connaught, Ireland.

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you had a look at all the usual general resources I tend to suggest?  ;)

You could also look at these Sligo specific sites which may help.

Perhaps you would like to have a look at these resources to see if there is anything that might help you.

Please come back with any further queries or to let us know how you get on.

Best wishes
