sorry - dont know about WW2 record for Irish Army, but I presume the same rule about 'next of kin only' would apply.

It would probably be worth writing to the addresses mentioned on that link I posted to ask what is available.

Wasn't Sean O Farrell one of those released after the good friday agreement?

The OP is talking about her grandfather in Dublin so it's the old IRA not the Northern Ireland current IRA.

Shane sorry my post wasnt clear.  I was making the point that the restrictions placed for old IRA records was the same as we have for WW2 records.  Oh and Irish personnell in WW2 records are available only from the MOD in England

Hi,

I'm a little confused regarding the timeline here.

It would help, if you told us when your grandfather, Sean O'Farrell died.

Dara.

there was a Sean O'Farrell active in Leitrim.

No O'Farrell among the list of those who fought in 1916 or amnongst those arrested.

Do you have any more dates (birth, marriage, death), name of wife and/or children?

There is a song about a Sean O' Farrell called Rising of the Moon on site: http://www.eirefirst.com/r.html
you could write to An Phoblacht, 58 Parnell Square, Dublin 1, Ireland. it is a sinn fein weekly paper deals with IRA history.  came across a Archilbald Hugh O' Farrell died 1914/15 war memorial at Tullow Church of Ireland, Carrickmines, County donegal.

There is a song about a Sean O' Farrell called Rising of the Moon

this song by John Keegan Casey (died 1870) is about the Rebellion of 1798, so a different era.
