Evan John James from Cilfynydd, nr Pontypridd

I wonder whether anyone would be kind enough to help me trace Evan.

All I know at present is that he was born circa 1911, he had a sister called Martha, and he worked at a coal mine in Senghenydd. He joined the British Army & spent 4 years in a Japanese POW camp before settling back in Sussex to raise his family.

He's not a member of my family - I'm making tentative enquiries on behalf of a friend...

Thanks for your help. I'm afraid I don't know much more than I stated on my original post, but the only Evan James I can find is born in England, not Pontypridd. Don't think it's the same one but I'm open to persuasion as I don't have much else to go on at this stage!!

plenty of Evan James registered Pontypridd, but he's the only Evan J in 1911. Do you know if martha was older or younger?

Using the free search on 1911 site, there's an Evan John James in the Pontypridd registration district who was 1 month old & he was born in the correct place.

Thank you Osprey & well done - that was the one I had found previously on Free BMD, but hadn't been able to find it since. I suspected there might be a problem with the site & was leaving it a few days before trying again.

I'm afraid I don't know whether Martha was younger or older - this is the only information I have so far & am going to order the birth cert for Evan in order to find out his parents names. I can't find anything on the British VRI discs so I suspect this time/area isn't covered on them.

Using the 1911 free search again, I couldn't find an Evan with a Martha in the same household. The birth cert looks to match with the death reg found by Suzard and the age on the census. You could buy some credits for the 1911 census and check the entry.

My relative Evan John James of  47 albion terrace cilfnydd born 1911 his parents were Margaret king & William James sisters Florence, Elizabeth & jane not sure about Martha but May be my nanna Margaret sounds like the same person
