Railways
« on: Thursday 05 August 10 20:01 BST (UK) »
My grand-father T W Brier born Sowerby Bridge 1850, was employed on the railway all his life, most of which he lived in Whortley.  I was wondering what railway company would have been his most probable employer.  Can anyone help?

Thanks

This site should give you an answer

I'm not sure of the where-a-bouts of Whortley - should that be Wortley Leeds or Wortley Barnsley ?

The site that I mentioned before has a map

http://www.lostrailwayswestyorkshire.co.uk/routes%20west%20yorkshire.htm

number 12 on the map is Armley and Wortley station on the GNR line, however the proximity to Leeds main station could mean that your grandfather worked for any of the companys or perhaps for Wellington station itself, I don't know which company ran it.
