Searching Thomas Bentham Family
« on: Friday 06 August 10 11:08 BST (UK) »
I have recently been told of my great grandfather and how my grandfather and father never really knew of him.

I have done some research and found his name was Thomas Bentham born approx 1895 in England. He was married in 1917 to Millicent Turner in a district called Aston.

They had one son named Cyril Norman Bentham in 1916 and soon after he (Thomas) left the family and went to Canada. I believe he may have landed in Saskatchewan.

I am looking to find any details of any new family generated from Thomas in Canada which would extend our family.

I have found a death certificate information for a possible match having a death date of 6 july 1959 in Vancouver. This may not be him, but your grandfather / great grandfather may fit a number of these details.

Sorry for the vaige information as there isnt much to advise. I look forward to any responces.

There was a Thomas Bentham who signed up for WWI in Canada, in 1915; at this time he was unmarried and lived in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. He was originally from Yorkshire. You can see his records here: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php

Do you know your Thomas' parents names and birthplace?

Thankyou very much for the quick responces so far.

Unfortunately no one in the family left knows any real information about Thomas Bentham, I had to search family tree web sites already to find his name.

In relation to his parents and their names or birth location I am unsure.

It seams that the geneology sites are all very separated and you cant find details on one person and things are linked making the job of tracing back relatives very easy. Even my grandmothers details are hard. Her name was Nancy May Davies and was married to Cyril in 1937.

Will keep searching though as it is very interesting to see what can be uncovered.

Thanks in advance to anyone who post information.

are there any good web sites that you refer to in your searches that I could also spend some time on ?

In looking on ancestry.com under Thomas Bentham there seem to be a whole host of Thomas Benthams born around the time in different areas. Is it normally a stab in the dark which one it is or can I confirm which one it is through professional services ?

Thanks again for any help.

Have you ordered Thomas and Millicents marriage certificate?  It will tell you who is Thomas' father as well as Thomas' occupation.
