Great Rick!  Please let us know when you receive the same.

It would be interesting to see what his occupation is, if he is the one Jorose found who was in the Canadian Army, it should say so on his marriage cert.

Hi Karen,

Unfortunately he was married in the UK in 1913 to a Millicent Turner and soon after their son was born or just before he split and left to go to Canada. On his marriage certificate it will only advise what he did when in the UK.

Once he arrived in Canada that is where my dilema will start as we have no idea what he got up to at that stage or even if he remarried. He may have joined the army (which is the link above) or he may not have.

Thanks for your information and help so far.

Cheers

Rick

On the 1916 Prairie census Thomas Benthan is shown lodging with the Arnsby family in Yorkton Saskatchewan (which is where Thomas signed up).  Thomas' immigration year is shown as 1914 and he is also shown as serving in Canada at Camp Hughes Winnipeg.  It's a good possibility that he never went overseas - I couldn't find a record of a return for him on incoming passenger lists.

There are Saskatchewan homestead files showing a Thomas Bentham obtaining land which should be around Quill Lake (vicinity of Yorkton) and in another genealogy database there is one reference to a T. Bentham around Lintlaw - which again is around Yorkton (NW).

However chasing this Thomas Bentham might prove nothing.  It only seems logical to obtain the marriage certificate.  This would then allow you to find your Thomas in the 1901 census and the 1911 census.

I would also use FreeBMD to try and find possible birth references for your Thomas.

The Attestation papers for the previously referenced Thomas Bentham shows his mother's address as St. Barnoldswick Yorkshire but his place of birth is D... Yorkshire
