The below marriage is possibly the William Hoaten/Hooten that I am looking for.
Mar Qtr 1907, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire
William HOOTON and Elizabeth EVANS
Married: Shelton St Mark Stoke on Trent.


Any suggestions on who his parents were and where they were before and after the marriage

If this is the person I am looking for, they would have sailed from Southampton to South Africa on The German. His occupation in 1907 was a Warrant Officer in the BSAP/- R.S.M. (S.R.V?.)- English British Subject.

 where and when was he born?
 Difficult to find with out more info, also are you saying they went to South africa? or was he just on that ship as  part of his work?

I have do notknow for sure if this is the couple I am looking for.

He was possilby born in Staines in 1876 or 1879.

He lived initally in SA and mostly in Rhodesia where he was eventually a Major in the BSAP (British SA Police which I think became the Rhodesian army).

I do know his travels were:
 1899 WC Hoaten travelled from London to South Africa (Cape) on the Maori

1906 W Hoaten travelled from Cape Town to Southampton (no indication of his marital status)

1907 W Hoaten and E Hoate travelled from South Hampton to South Africa (Cape)

1925 William Charles Hoaten travelled from Durban to Southampton. For this entry, 1 site spell his surname as Hooten another as Horten and another as Hoaten.

His date of birth is variously listed as abt 1874, abt 1877, 1878, 1879 and abt 1880 (this last date is definetly not correct)

E Hoaten birth date is listed on the travel manifest as 1886

I looked for this couple on 1911 census and cannot see them!
 Just a though you never know.
