Carr family
« on: Sunday 08 August 10 13:32 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if anybody knows as to what became of an Albert Carr bc1899 and Catherine Carr bc1901 in Canada.  There parents, Albert a baptist minister and Louisa, were both born in Northampton and emigrated about 1898.

I believe Catherine may have been born Halton Ontario.

A long shot I know but if we don't try we don't achieve and rootschat are unbelievably helpful.

Hi,

Have you tried the Baptist Church?

http://www.fellowship.ca/qry/page.taf

or the Canada census for 1901 & 1911?

Good hunting.

The 1911 Census (free to view at the link posted by J.A.M) indicates that the family only arrived in Canada in 1907). This is further corroborated by a passenger list in 1928 that has Albert and Louisa returning from a trip to England. Albert and Louisa state they have been in Canada 1907-1928. I found this record on *An**y* but it doesn't appear to be available on the Canadian Archives website for you to look up the original. Couldn't find their original inbound passage either but if they came from the Canary Islands directly there may not be a record in the archives.

The 1911 Census shows both Albert and Catherine as being born in the Canary Islands

Marriage of son Albert....

Sadie Adele McElroy, age 22
Spinster
Baptist
Residence Toronto
Place of Birth England
Father charles E McElroy
Mother Sarah E Wilkinson

They were married in Toronto on 18 Sep 1923 by Albert's father

One of the winesses was Catherine Carr. I did not find a marriage for her but the current index only goes up to 1926 on line due to privacy laws. A new year is added annually.

Wow! Thankyou J.A.M and Polar bear you have given me something to go on.  I am most appreciative for your help.  When genealogy goes out of the UK it becomes difficult but then I realised that Rootschat can help that way and it certainly does.  Once again thankyou.

Thankyou Valeriec that information is interesting as it will come in handy with ancestors who emigrated to Canada on my husbands side.  I have looked at the site, it's a pity that it doesn't state when they died or what ages. Strange that Albert was buried with his parents, I wondered that maybe he died before his parents and his wife remarried so his parents decided to be buried with him. I shall no doubt find this all out sometime in the future.

Once again thankyou

Did some more searching and came up with the headstone.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dcoop/tills/tcg142.htm
Rev. Albert Carr 1871-1956
Louisa Weston, his wife 1874-1936
A. Harold, their son 1899-1929

If the site doesn't work go to
http://freepages.geneaolgy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~dcoop/tills/tills_section_g.htm

You can also do a search for the Tillsonburg Public Library and also for genealogy sites for Oxford county, Ontario

Hope this helps
