Hi i am hopeing that someone can shed some light on a query i have on my great aunt, Susan Isard believed to have been born aprox 1856/7, daughter of Andrew Richard Isard and Harriet Moll, now my query is on the 1891 census return for 33 hughes fields Deptford she is down as the daughter aged 14, but on the 1881 census Andrew is still living at home with mum and dad leonard and mary isard at 41 new st Deptford, so what i am wondering is did Andrew marry Harriet after 1881 and did Harriet already have Susan and maybe other siblings. hope someone out there can shed some light on this quandry.
thanks

Hi K,

It sounds likely.

Birth registration
Susan Moll, Sep 1876, Greenwich 1d 856

She's a nurse child in 1881

RG11/717 38 25

Andrew and Harriet were married late 1881 according to FreeBMD.

I think there's a typo in Susan's birth year, and the 'age 14 in 1891' bit is correct  :)

thank you very much for that quick reply, i do apologise for my misscalculation of the birth year of course it was 1876 and not 1856, very interesting reading and so sad to find out that Susan was a Nurse Child.
thanks again

Susan was married Christmas Day 1897 and she listed her father as Andrew probably did not know who her real father was. There is also problems with Her mums ancestry Harriet who list her father as Phillip Moll a Tailor the only person who fits the census is listed as Russia

Hi,

There is a christening record for a Susannah Moll at St Nicholas Deptford in 1879 with parents listed as Harriet Moll & James Moll. Address is 55 New Street. Is it possible that Harriet was married before?

No changed my mind on this one as Harriets father is listed as Moll. The James & Harriet I mention abover were married in 1876 in Stoke Newington. Harriet's maiden name is Herbert.

Was Harriett born before her parents' marriage maybe? (Or before her mother married Mr Moll anyway)

Marriage
Philipp Mall to possibly Elizabeth Barrett
Dec 1856 Colchester 4a 459

The 1861 census shows an 8 year old Harriet Barrett in the household of Jonas and Ann Barrett at Colchester. She's listed as their daughter but they are 60 and 58 ...

The 1841 census confirms that Jonas and Ann had a daughter Elizabeth born ca. 1833 (= the age of Philip Moll's wife on the censuses)
