Drummond in Duff Kinnel, Johnstone
« on: Sunday 08 August 10 19:20 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information regarding my gggg grandfather, Peter Drummond. He lived in an area called Duff Kinnel in Johnstone, Dumfries. He was married to Mary Buchanan and had 3 children all born here, Mary b 1806, Eliza b 1809 and Charles b 1811. Charles is my ggg grandfather.

I have all of their birth records from Scotlandspeople. I am at a dead end. I think he died before the 1841 census, as there is only one Mary Drummond in Dumfries in 1841, who is a widow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't find anything for either of them as far as birth records, death records or a marriage record. They were probably born around 1785.

THANKS!!!!

Hi Diana,

I’m afraid I can’t help you directly however I would recommend looking at the Monument Inscriptions published by the Dumfries and Galloway Family History Society. I don’t have the Johnstone book however they are very inexpensive. Here’ the link:

I hope it provides some answerers. I often find the MI books to be the best source of pre 1855 deaths. Even when an OPR entry exists the gravestones usually give more information and as families are often buried together or near each other they can help you make the vital links you need. The only thing is that with no on-line index it can be a slower process but worth it to make the link back.
