Hi

I don't know if you are following the Watty line, but the following may help in respect of Alexander Snr., and has been constructed from the ADM 175 (Coast Guard) records.

He was first nominated to the Preventative Service (the CG Service was not created until 1822) on 28 November 1820 (Nom. No.523), the place of nomination being Fowey, Cornwall, with a first posting to Yealm.

On the 18 October 1821 he was posted to Ballyhalbert in Ireland following his promotion to Commissioned Boatman. From here it is easier if I tabulate his subsequent moves:

7 Jan 1822 to Torr Head
10 Oct 1828 to Ballycastle (Colraine)
31 May 1829 back to Torr Head
3 July 1829 to Cliffcreek, Kent
27 Oct 1830 to Swanage following promotion to Chief Boatman
12 March 1831 to Bearshide
4 Oct 1831 to Blackrock
10 Nov 1835 to St Ives
Discharged 25 June 1850 on an allowance of £40/annum.

This information may help you trace further members of the family.

The 1881 Census has Alexander Watty (widowed)  83, living with his daughter (Sarah Hawke)and her family in St Ives.

Regards

Martin
