Edward Gunner
« on: Monday 09 August 10 08:05 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

I am looking for any information for an Edward Gunner b 1839, brother of William Gunner born 1835 Shoreditch. William came to Australia and married Marion Mackie in Melbourne in 1859. Their children were born at Blackwood, Victoria between 1860 and 1875. Another child, Mena Mabel was born in Tasmania in 1882. My gg grandmother Agnes was born 1861 at Blackwood. 3 children died in 1866 all in the one week. One of the witnesses to the burial was Edward Gunner. In the 1903 Electoral Roll for Tasmania, Edward Gunner is listed as a Miner living at North Esk.Tasmania. There is a death of an Edward Gunner 1906 Launcseton, Tasmania but I have yet to get a certificate.

I have no information of either men arriving in Australia or when they went to Tasmania but it must have been around 1880 as Agnes married in George Town 1881 to William Haley.

Cheers Chris

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat

What information does William's marriage (and or death certificate) give about his parents?

GUNNER, William
MCKIE, Marion
1859
Victoria
Ref Number:4326

Does it confirm this information?

1841 census HO107 708/6 folio 37
Ebenezer Place Shoreditch Middlesex
William Gunner 30 Dyer
Elizabeth Gunner 30
Elizabeth Gunner 12
Sarah Gunner 9
William Gunner 6
Edward Gunner 2
all born in county
Adult ages, those over 15, are usually rounded down to the nearest 5 on the 1841 census

Hi Valda,

Yes it is the same family and I have been in contact with a couple of others, but was wondering if more people were researching this family. I have some census information. Was just wondering if Edward ever married and when did he come to Australia if he is the one noted on the death certificate of the children buried in Blackwood Cemetery, Victoria or if that Edward is actually a cousin.

Regards Chris
