Look Up in Ulverston District
« on: Tuesday 10 August 10 19:11 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the birth dates of my grand parents, and am hoping they might be on their marriage certificate.
Have checked all the usual places to no avail.

Their names are Edith May Middleton and William H Pounder, married 1938.
I do know it is recorded in Vol 8E on page 1051.
I just hope it has their birth dates.
Very much appreciate any help.

Lou

Hi and welcome to rootschat
The certificate should have their age - or at least say "of full age".  ie over 21.  The other useful information will be the names of both fathers and occupations.   Witnesses names can help if they are family members so it is well worth your buying the certificate.  You won't get the information otherwise unless you know the church they married in and can look at the parish register.  You cannot do that if they married in a registry office.
Certificates cost £9.25 and I think you may need to get it in this case.   Even if you find suitable births on www.freebmd.org.uk or one of the paying sites you will not be sure that they are correct.  There are several possible Edith May births for instance.
Just thought that you may find the birth date on their death registration though.  When and where did they die?  Not always very reliable as dates at death can be out but it is worth a try.
Regards
Andrea

Hi Lou,

Welcome to rootschat. Just a little thing, Ulverston was in Lancashire pre-1974. So if you find that your grandparents' ancestors were from the Ulverston area the Online Parish Clerks for the County of Lancaster could hold some useful information. http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/
