Rogers of London
« on: Wednesday 11 August 10 08:29 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information regarding this family. They were in London in the 1841 census living at Kennington,Brixton, England.

The main part of the family being Henry, wife Elizabeth, Edwin,William (my line), Ann and Mary Ann came to Australia in 1849 on the Mary Shepherd but Henry Junior born Bath Somerset 1826 stayed behind. He may have been married but I can't find who to. That first wife died sometime before 1861, but they had 2 children (according to the 1861 census) by the name of Elizabeth b abt 1853 and William George b abt 1859 as in the census Elizabeth was 8 yrs and William George was 2 yrs.

1861 census has the family living at 13 Albion Place, Parish of Hartley, Witney, London. It also says that Elizabeth was born London, Surry and William George born Hartley.

I do hope someone is researching this part of the family.

Cheers Chris

Hi

You mean this family in Hampshire (not London)

1861 census RG9 707 folio 42
12 Albion Place Hartley Wintney Hampshire
Henry Rogers 32 Head Married Stone Mason Bath Somerset
Emma Rogers 23 Wife Married Heckfield Hants
Elizabeth Rogers 8 Daughter London Surrey
William George 2 Son Hartley Hants

1871 census RG10 711 folio 24
17 Malvern Road Wandsworth Surrey
Henry Rogers 44 Head Married Mason Bath Somerset
Emma Rogers 33 Wife Married Hants
John Rogers 9 Son Hants
A J Rogers 8 Son Battersea one hand from birth
Rose Rogers 8 Daughter Battersea Surrey
Kate Rogers 7 Daughter Battersea Surrey
Lilley Rogers 5 Daughter Battersea Surrey
Henry Rogers 2 Son Battersea Surrey
Mary A Rogers 3 Daughter Wandsworth Surrey

One of the children's birth certificates would give you Emma's maiden name and help find the marriage.

Hi

The Lymington area of Hampshire is by the coast in the south. Hartley Wintney is towards the North of Hampshire where it borders Surrey over 50 miles away from Lymington. Heckfield is about 4 miles away from Hartley Wintney. They are both about 40 miles from Lambeth. So the marriage could really be anywhere between.

It would be better to confirm first through the birth certificate of one of the children.

Hi,

Thank you all for your replies. Most helful.

Emma Street was Henry's second wife, she was from Hampshire, her father was a Game Keeper. AJ was actually a girl because I am in touch with her descendents. Ada married Frederick Mayo.

I really wish to find out more about Elizabeth and William George from the first marriage. I don't know if they came to Australia . I don't have any info on that and sometimes shipping only had Miss or Master. I was hoping to find them in subsequent censuses, after 1861. I understand that by the 1871 census they were probably working and had left home.

Thanks for your help

Chris
