Culloden School, Poplar, London,1920-1929
« on: Wednesday 11 August 10 13:23 BST (UK) »
Can anyone give me information about this school during these years.  My late father was born in 1915 and this is the only school he mentioned attending.  Presumably this incorporated what is now an infants, junior and senior school.  Talking to my husband's father the 'senior' sections of schools was either classed as an Elementary School or a 'Central' School.  Admission to this was by passing an exam.  The Central School was not as high as a grammar school.  Is this information correct.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Best wishes, Pat

Hi

The London Metropolitan Archives hold the log books for the school 1896-1929

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/searches/subjectView.asp?ID=O112056

If you contact them they might hold photographs as well.

Tower Hamlets Local history & archives may also hold information

Valda

Hi Valda, Thanks for your very helpful suggestions.  At the moment Tower Hamlets Archives are undergoing building improvement works and any research is best left until completion which is expected late September.  I will have a look then.  I do not think there are any extant records for Culloden School at the London Metropolitan Archives for the years 1920-1930 but there may be photos of the school there.  Thanks again, Pat
