It would help if you defined the family you are looking for.  Christian names, dates of birth (approx)etc. are essential to try and help find "your" Slaters.  In the 1911 census there are 177 Slaters in Manitoba and on the 1901 census 146.   www.automatedgenealogy.com

I know this about the Slater family, my grandfather was William James Slater born April 24, 1891, died May 10, 1932, his father was John Edward Slater.
William Slater married Janet Grey McKillop in 1915. They had a child Jean Isabel Slater in 1920.
(I am very interested in Janet and Jean)
I think Janet died soon after Jean was born (this was in Selkirk, MB)
William married Jean Coghill in 1920
My father John Edward Slater was born June 16, 1921

William James Slater marriet Jannet Gray McKillop 24 January 1916 at Winnipeg, Manitoba.
http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php

On the 1916 prairie census William James is enumerated twice, once with his parents and again with his wife.  He was not in the country - his cenus entry is marked with an O which means he was serving overseas.

Entry with parents was in Selkirk Manitoba with residence on Vaughn Road.
All individuals were born in Manitoba.
John Edward Slater (53), general labourer with wife Frances Harriet Slater(47)
William James Slater(22) Overseas soldier - 34 Fort George Horse  - not sure of my interpretation of where he was serving.  Occupation entered was attendant and then soldier added
Siblings were John Edward(19), Catherine(18), Isabella(16), Bertha(14), Samuel Lawrence(12), Nellie(10)

Entry with wife was in Winnipeg at 639 1/2 Langside - they were roomers
William Slater (27) b. Manitoba Overseas soldier and ordinary occupation was attendant at asylum
Jennet Slater(34) b. Scotland immigration 1910.

It looks like Janet Gray McKillop actually arrived at the Port of St John NB April 14, 1913 from Glasgow.  She travelled on the Letitia.  Link to passenger list above.

Possible birth for Janet April 22, 1881 Calton Glasgow to Archibald McKillop and Isabella Gray.  The marriage certificate would confirm parents of Janet.

I would definitely look into getting the marriage certificate for Janet if you want to trace her back in Scotland.  If she is descended from Archibald and Isabella there is no definite sighting for her in the 1901 Scottish census.   A possibility is Janet McKilop, 19, boarding at 40 Lochiel St. Glasgow and working as a Cotton Cop Winder.

In 1891 Registration District Calton Glasgow Lanarkshire at 48 Young St. there is
Arc'd McKillop 48, b. 1843 Girvan(Govan) Ayrshire, wire weaver father to
Isa 14, b. 1877 Glasgow, pupil teacher
Jane b. 1879
Arch'd b. 1884
Janet 9, b. 1882 Glasgow

In 1881 Registration District Calton Glasgow there is
Arch'd McKillop, 41, b. 1840 Govan Ayrshire Wire Weaver with
Isabella, 37, b. 1844 Glasgow
Donald, 20 App. wire weaver
John 16
Mary 13
Isabella 5
Jane 3
All children born Glasgow.

All I can view is the transcript.  In order to view the originals you have to buy credits and use http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
