I did obtain the marriage certificate of John Jordan and Anne Elizabeth Ormond - details are:

Date of Marriage: 20th April 1848 in Carew Parish Church, Pembroke
John Jordan, of full age, Bachelor, Draper, St Mary's Pembroke, Father: Richard Jordan Gentleman
Anne Elizabeth Ormond, of full age, Spinster, Cardeath in Carew, Father: William Ormond Farmer

witnessed by: George William Ormond, Mary Anne Ormond and Elizabeth Ormond.

I believe John Jordan had a brother called Charles and a sister called Eliza.

I have heard the name Scurlock mentioned before in my family tree but have not been able to find a marriage certificate for Richard Jordan so do not know if he was actually married to Margaret Scurlock or if she was John's mother

Many thanks for your reply and for the details that do indeed say Richard JORDAN was the father of John.  Margaret SCURLOCK and Richard JORDAN never married and he was very much older than her.

There is no mention of Richard JORDAN having a wife in his will, but Margaret is mentioned by her maiden name.  Do you know what happened to John JORDAN's siblings Eliza and Charles?  I haven't been able to trace them but they were alive in 1827 when Richard JORDAN made his will.  The will is online at the NLW and was proved in 1828.

Margaret SCURLOCK was the younger sister of my ancestor William SCURLOCK who died in 1815, leaving 3 young sons.  When William SCURLOCK married Elizabeth LEWIS by licence in Steynton in 1811, Richard JORDAN was the bondsman.  Margaret married a much younger husband (William JOHN) in 1834 in Rosemarket.  They only had one daughter Caroline.

Best wishes and hope this helps

Hi
I have found your posts about John Jordan. I think he is the father of Alfred Jordan, my great grandfather. Did you have any information about Alfred?
Many thanks

Hi Hpembs

Alfred Ormond Jordan's sister Frances Amelia Jordan was my great grandmother, her daughter Frances Gwendoline de Cantington Jordan was my grandmother.

I have been researching the Jordan family for some years and have been unable to confirm who John Jordan (Alfred's father) mother was.  John's father was Richard Jordan born 1773 in Llanstadwel, Pembrokeshire.  It has been suggested that John's mother was Margaret Scurlock, but I have been unable to find their marriage (perhaps they were not married!)

I would agree with the interpretation of the wording of the will that Richard Jordan & Margaret Scurlock were not married "the money to be divided among my children by her" and as she married the money did go to them.

Eliza was baptised in Rosemarket 26 March 1811, the base child of Margaret Scurlock born in the parish of Burton.
Possible marriage 25 March 1849 in Dale by licence

Thank you for your information Osprey and Radnor1. My mother is researching her father's line from Alfred Jordan (her grandfather). She has photos of Alfred, Edith Jordan and the Franks. The group photo is thought to be 1895. She also has a photo of Mrs John Jordan which may be of interest to you.
I'm new to this but bizarrely having grown up in Sussex,  then moved to Wales in 1996, I now live in Llanstadwell and find that's where my family are originally from! I am going to try and find out where everyone lived.

Radnor1 we also find that we have a picture of Fanny Jordan as a bridesmaid at Alfred's wedding stating that she is Alfred's sister your great grandmother. I'll have copies made if you want them.
Do you know if John Jordan lived in Leamington Spar at some point? All the pictures are taken there
Thanks
